We're going to the zoo zoo zoo!

Date: 12 Feb 2011
Location: Singapore Zoological Garden

We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo.
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too.
We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo.

Charitizens gathered on this day for one special trip. We were going to bring the children of Sunbeam Place to the zoo. This is our first trip out with the children and many of us were looking forward to this.

Charitizens went over to Sunbeam place to pick up the children in the morning. From the look of their faces, we can tell that they too were excited about the trip.

When we finally reached the zoo, the children were all eager to go into the zoo to look at the animals. The children were split into 2 groups. This entry will feature one of the groups.

The children were first brought around the zoo to look at the animals.

Next up, we brought them to watch the amazing show put up by the elephants and their trainer. The elephants were well trained and coordinated and it was definitely and eye-opener to all of us. It was such a thrill to see them perform, and i think they really deserved a round of applause from all of us.

At this point, many of us were getting hungry, and so, we proceeded to have lunch. It was a Bento set kindly sponsored by Sakae Sushi, which the children really liked a lot.

Next up, we brought the children to the Rainforest Kidzworld to play in the wet playground.

Many of them really had fun playing in the cool water, running and splashing the water, and our volunteers too, joined in the fun.

Finally it was time to leave. We went to clean up and prepare to make the journey back to Sunbeam Place. Both the children and volunteers were exhausted at the end of the day, but we really enjoyed ourselves that day. For the volunteers, it was a good break from our hectic school life to do something meaningful, yet at the same time enjoyable.

Charity first visit of the year.

Date: 29 Jan 2011
Location: Sunbeam Place

Charitizens gathered at NTU for their first visit of the year to Sunbeam Place.

The first activity we had was T-shirt painting for the children. They were each given a shirt to design and paint in any ways they like, but they were encouraged by Charitizens to paint their dreams. We see children painted the sky, jersey, some even painted their name. The volunteers also assisted the children with their design and they also had lots of fun.

Next up, the hungry children were treated to some snacks. The only catch - they have to make the snack themselves. We brought breads, hotdogs, vegetables, cheese, mayonaise and tomato sauce. They were really excited to be making their own food so once they put on their glove, they immediately took the bread and ingredient and started working on it.

In conjunction with Chinese New Year, our last activity was for the children to make Chinese New Year Decorations using Red Packets. Many of them decided to make fishes, while some decided to be more adventurous and make decorations that are bigger, like the chinese coin and the figure 8. The children were really good at it. It was really enjoyable to be doing crafts with them.

It was a fun and enjoyable day for both the children and volunteers, and we definitely look forward to returning there.

年年有余

年年有余" charitizens chorused in unison as we followed the emcees instructions and added ingredients to the radiant mix of white radish, orange carrots, red peppers, chopped peanuts – ingredients that make up what we all have come to know as Yusheng.

Hall 13 Charitizens gathered at Marina Square as part of our canvassing efforts for our beneficiary, Sunbeam Place, to partake in Sakae Holdings Ltd bid to set a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the “Largest Number of People to Recite Lo Hei Auspicious Phrases Together”.

‘Lo Hei’ is the tossing of Yusheng to symbolize abundance, prosperity and vigor. The higher you toss the platter and louder you shout the auspicious phrases, the more luck you will have in the coming year.

Charitizens were also treated to exciting performances as well as a meet-and-greet session with the cast of the 881 The Musical.

Words are not enough to describe how fun and enjoyable the event was. We shall let the pictures do the talking.

Lots of plates with yusheng. Yum!

The emcees for the day.

Charitizens all excited for the Lo Hei.

Finally! The Lo Hei! 年年有余"

All in all, we had an enjoyable time there.
